Yeah. For example, the juvenile male tarantulas may be recognized by looking at the cast exuvium for the presence of exiandrous fusillae or the ones called as spermathecae.
In male spiders, there may be tiny spigots that arise from the silk producing organs near the genital opening.
These spinneret spigots along with the dense setae provide in these males as half moon shape. This helps to differentiate sex among the small group of spiders. However, it is to be remembered that this method of sexing is not possible in all species.
For example, in the species of spiders called Aphonopelma enax, often a stereomicroscope is highly required to identify the sex among the members. So, single method of sexing may not be suitable for all the breeds of tarantulas.
The presence of the tiny tibial spurs below the fore legs is one of the differentiating features with regard to sexing of these tarantulas.
Some times, the male spiders may be so dull with exhibition of less body movements, in general. For example, the male tarantulas in cases of Haplopelma lividum are more slow and dull in movements. These can be identified by such lethargic characters, some times.
In the wild, sexing is done many times by the free movements. Yeah. The male spiders wander so freely, while the female tarantulas may often be found in the burrows.
Overall, it can be said that ventral sexing is more difficult to perform. But, if carried out in the right manner, it may become reliable.
However, many breeders say that the ventral sexing in different breeds of tarantulas is some what less reliable.
More over, after maturing, male tarantulas are having only a shorter life span unlike the female tarantulas.
Some times, the female genital openings may reveal special features. For example, the widow spiders may reveal black colored and shrunken genital opening and is sclerotized.
